Site Closings: Suprnova. LokiTorrent. EliteTorrents. The last 6 months or so the other shoe finally dropped, and many of the mega torrent sites have been closed. The MPAA has been the driving force behind most of the recent shutdowns, but the RIAA, FBI, ICE, and others have also been helping. Need some new torrent sites? That is what my links page is for. Some of the sites on my list keep tabs on dozens of torrent sites, including online/offline status and other info.

- Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocal, has recently launched a torrent
search engine. Some see this is a big step for the technology, others believe Bram Cohen is finally giving groups a good reason to sue him. He has also recently been beta testing a
trackerless system, similar to what Azureus released previously.

- To avoid overload of their servers, Microsoft released Win XP's Service Pack 2 in phases - certain business customers got access first, then some more people, and finally the generel public a couple weeks later. A
BBC Article was written about a group sharing this service pack to show the merits of the file sharing system, since BitTorrent can greatly reduce the demand on initial servers when deploying popular files.
